Its transients are a tad softer, yet they are excellent and have a good grip. The sound is self-assured, clean and firm. WebSep 23, 2008 · When I was using current production pre amp tubes the ECC803s was one of my favorites. A bit more sparkle/high end than the ECC83s. Since its a long plate its a bit more prone to microphonics but at least with the Ultra the pre's are tucked away.
